A Civil Engineer is responsible for overseeing the design and construction of roads, bridges, residential, non residential projects, waterways, sewage treatment plants and other types of infrastructure. Their duties include using software programs to design structural blueprints, adhering to construction laws and environmental constraints and visiting construction sites to monitor the building process ensuring each project is feasible by analyzing local and environmental impacts and making sure that they can be completed on time within the budget restrictions.
Job Description:

4 Manage, design, develop, create and maintain small-scale through to large-scale construction projects in a safe, timely and sustainable manner
5 Conduct on site investigations and analyze data (maps, reports, tests, drawings and other)
6 Carry out technical and feasibility studies and draw up blueprints that satisfy technical specifications
7 Assess potential risks, materials and costs
8 Provide advice and resolve creatively any emerging problems/deficiencies
9 Oversee and mentor staff and liaise with a variety of stakeholders
10 Handle over the resulting structures and services for use
11 Monitor progress and compile reports in project status
12 Manage budget and purchase equipment/materials
13 Comply with guidelines and regulations including permits, safety etc and deliver technical files and other technical documentation as required
14 Preparing site reports and filling in other paperwork
15 Managing relationships with projects of different consultants.
16 Analyzing survey reports, long-range plans, maps and other data to design new projects
17 Considering budget, regulations and environmental hazards during risk-analysis stage
18 Preparing material, equipment and labor cost estimates and confirming costs are within the budget
19 Forecasting design and construction timeline
20 Completing and submitting all permit applications to the appropriate agencies and ensuring projects are compliant throughout the design and construction stages
21 Overseeing soil testing to establish soil strength and building feasibility
22 Using design software to create project drawings and renderings
23 Perform preparation of design specifications
24 Incorporate special features which relate to the project at hand into specifications. These include order of work, physical conditions at the site, construction work schedules, method of payment and measurement, construction procedures and special methods, and coordination with contractors and other stakeholders
25 Perform technical review on specifications to ensure clarity, completeness, and exactness, and to remove restrictive descriptions so as to ensure competitive bidding
26 The site civil engineer's responsibilities include managing different parts of construction projects, supervising crew members, preparing estimates for time and material costs, completing quality assurance, observing health and safety standards, and compiling reports for different stakeholders.
27 Before starting any concreting, it is necessary to prepare all the things in advance. Checking whether the machine-like vibrator used in the concreting is available on the site, if it goes off then it is a backup must be available for continuous work
28 Nominates a deputy to carry out the responsibilities of the position in case of his/her absence whenever the need arises.
29 Visit proposed project site to obtain necessary information for use in creating project specification. This include condition and location of project site, location of storage and staging areas, and character and scope of work
30 Provide guidance and technical advice to various persons and departments, including engineering personnel, Branch Chief, Section Chief, Engineering and Construction Department, and Architect-Engineer firms where necessary to develop basic specification procedure and policies to cover new types of projects and structures, and to make clearer various phases of the construction work
31 Communicate with higher authorities on issues concerning specifications, engineering interpretations and explanations, supply of items, and items of work, and offer recommendations on reviewing specifications.
