An Electrical Engineer is responsible for developing electrical devices and testing them for safety and efficiency. Their duties include managing the manufacturing process for new electrical equipment, using design software to produce schematics and overseeing the installation process of their designs. Designs, constructs and deploys electrical systems. Their duties include troubleshooting for electrical assemblies, supporting the development of systems from concept to manufacturing, and working collaboratively with other engineers to create the needed design.
Job Description:
1 Designs electrical systems by developing and testing components.
2 Evaluates electrical systems, products, components, and applications by designing and conducting research programs and applying knowledge of electricity and materials.
3 Confirms systems’ and components’ capabilities by designing testing methods.
4 Develops electrical products by studying customer requirements and researching and testing manufacturing and assembly methods and materials.
5 Develops manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for building and assembling electrical components and by soliciting observations from operators.
6 Assures product quality by designing electrical testing methods and testing finished products and system capabilities.
7 Prepares product reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
8 Provides engineering information by answering questions and requests.
9 Design new electrical engineering and control systems.
Perform with site staff and external experts to supervise and enhance site electrical systems utilization
10 Keeps equipment operational by following manufacturer’s instructions and established procedures and requesting repair service.
11 Maintains product database by writing computer programs and entering data.
12 Completes projects by training and guiding technicians. Assist construction projects as needed with on-location technical support.
Support plants start-ups along with commissioning activities. Develop standard technical specifications and basic engineering drawings.
13 Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional societies.
14 Ensuring all techniques, procedures, and designs meet appropriate compliance standards
Troubleshooting and solving any electrical system errors
Providing input over the design and development of equipment designs as they progress through the structural design process
15 Managing and overseeing the work of Junior Electrical Engineers
Supporting the manufacturing of components and resolving any manufacturing queries
16 Managing power generation, transmission and distribution
17 Working with high and low voltage equipment
18 Designing systems and products using computer software
19 Working with renewable energy sources
20 Managing and maintaining building services, such as lighting, heating, ventilation and lift systems
21 Carrying out feasibility studies for new technical developments
22 Drawing up project plans, making models, prototypes and circuit diagrams for high and low voltage electrical equipment
23 Budgeting and estimating timescales
24 Overseeing technicians and craftspeople
25 Testing installations and systems
26 Ensuring projects meet safety regulations. Develop 3-line diagrams, wiring and connection diagrams controlling schematics, lighting, grounding and raceway layouts.
27 Conferring with customers, engineers, and others to discuss existing or potential engineering products or projects.
28 Ensuring that installation and operations conform to standards and customer requirements by preparing electrical systems specifications, technical drawings, or topographical maps.
29 Establishing construction, manufacturing, or installation standards or specifications by performing a wide range of detailed calculations.
30 Writing reports and compiling data regarding existing and potential electrical engineering projects and studies. Preparing specifications for purchases of electrical equipment and materials.
31 Supervising or training project team members.
Estimating material, labor, or construction costs for budget preparation.
Maintaining electrical equipment
32 Nominates his /her deputy during their absence to handle the duties
33 Be available to undertake off-site inspections of proposed equipment and materials as may be deemed necessary by the Project Manager.
