The HSE Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, as well as overseeing the safety of both the food production processes and utility systems within the plant. This role involves creating a safe work environment, reducing risks, and promoting a culture of safety.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Key Responsibilities:
• Safety Compliance:
o Ensure all operations comply with local and international safety regulations, including OSHA, HACCP, and ISO standards relevant to food safety and industrial safety.
o Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations to identify and mitigate hazards.
• Training and Development:
o Develop and implement safety training programs for all employees, focusing on safe handling of food, chemicals, and equipment.
o Train staff on emergency procedures, including evacuation drills, fire safety, and response to chemical spills, particularly ammonia leaks.
• Environmental Management:
o Oversee the management of environmental practices, ensuring proper waste management, pollution control, and sustainable use of resources like water through the RO system.
o Monitor and manage the environmental impact of ammonia cooling systems, ensuring compliance with environmental permits and regulations.
• Utility Systems Oversight:
o Work closely with maintenance teams to ensure the safety and efficiency of utility systems like RO water treatment and ammonia cooling systems.
o Develop safety protocols for maintenance activities on these systems to prevent accidents and ensure continuous operation.
• Incident Management:
o Lead the response to safety incidents, ensuring immediate containment, investigation, and implementation of corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
o Document and report all incidents, near-misses, and safety observations.
• Documentation and Reporting:
o Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training sessions, incident reports, and compliance audits.
o Prepare and submit regular HSE reports to management, detailing performance metrics, issues faced, and improvement plans.
• Culture Promotion:
o Foster a proactive safety culture where all employees are encouraged to contribute to safety discussions and improvements.
o Organize safety committee meetings and encourage participation from all levels of the workforce.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, occupational health and safety, or a related field
• 5+ years of relevant experience in health, safety, and environmental management, preferably in food manufacturing or chemical processing industries.
• Experience with utilities like RO systems and ammonia refrigeration is highly desirable.
• Advanced in English and computer skills.
• Strong knowledge of HSE regulations, policies, and best practices
• Certifications: NEBOSH, OSHA certification, or equivalent safety management certification.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a diverse team environment
Working Conditions:
• The role involves working in both office settings and on the plant floor, which can be noisy, requires wearing PPE, and involves exposure to various chemical hazards.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to stand for long periods, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces when necessary.
