A QA/QC (Quality Assurance/Quality Control) Civil Officer is a specialist responsible for ensuring that all civil works on a construction project meet the specified quality standards, regulations, and project requirements. Their role is split into two main functions: proactive Quality Assurance and reactive Quality Control.
????? Key Responsibilities of a QA/QC Civil Officer
Quality Assurance (QA): This is the proactive part of the job, focused on preventing defects before they happen.
Developing Procedures: The officer creates and implements quality management plans, procedures, and inspection checklists. This includes preparing key documents like the Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) and method statements.
Training & Auditing: They conduct training sessions for the site team to ensure everyone understands the quality standards. They also perform regular internal audits to check that the correct processes are being followed.
Documentation Management: They maintain and manage all quality-related documentation, including material submittals, vendor qualifications, and non-conformance reports.
Quality Control (QC): This is the reactive part of the job, focused on identifying and correcting defects after they occur.
On-Site Inspections: They conduct daily inspections of all civil activities, such as excavation, earthworks, concrete pouring, and steel reinforcement, to ensure they comply with the approved drawings and specifications.
Material Testing: They are responsible for inspecting incoming materials, such as cement, steel, and aggregates, and coordinating with certified laboratories to perform necessary tests (e.g., concrete compression tests).
Reporting and Corrective Action: The officer raises Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for any work that does not meet the standards. They then coordinate with the site engineer and project manager to ensure that the issues are resolved and documented.
Final Handover: They compile all quality documentation and "as-built" records for the final project handover to the client, ensuring the project's quality history is fully traceable.
