Develop, maintain and control the project schedule across all disciplines – civil, structural steel, mechanical, piping and grounding. The Planning Engineer is the contractor's primary planning interface to the Client and is responsible for accurate, timely progress measurement and reporting throughout the project life cycle.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare the Level 2 schedule for inclusion with the bid; develop the Level 4 baseline schedule (Primavera P6) prior to mobilisation, including a manpower histogram broken down by discipline.
• Build the WBS covering the full execution sequence – civil works, structural steel erection, mechanical / equipment installation, piping, grounding and pre-commissioning interfaces.
• Update and revise the schedule weekly; produce 3-week look-ahead programmes and identify critical-path risks with recovery options.
• Develop the activity breakdown with weightages, obtain Client approval, and compute monthly Work-in-Progress (WIP) for invoicing.
• Prepare Daily, Weekly and Monthly Progress Reports (with S-curves, manpower curves, photographic progress, variance analysis and recovery plans).
• Coordinate with site supervisors, QC, HSE and subcontractors to gather accurate field progress data.
• Participate in weekly coordination meetings and monthly progress reviews; prepare planning inputs and present to the Client.
• Track holds, NCRs, RFIs, material deliveries and shop-drawing approvals against the schedule; flag impacts to the project team early.
• Maintain change control and time-impact analysis for any scope changes; support EOT and variation order claims when required.
Qualifications & Experience
• Education: B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering (Civil acceptable with strong mechanical/piping exposure).
• Certification: Primavera P6 (mandatory); PMP, PMI-SP or AACE PSP preferred.
• Experience: Minimum 6–10 years of project planning experience, with at least 4 years in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on industrial / petrochemical / chemical / oil & gas / power projects.
• Project Type: Demonstrated experience planning multi-discipline scopes covering civil works, structural steel erection, mechanical / piping installation and grounding – brownfield (live-plant) experience strongly preferred.
• Tools: Advanced Primavera P6, MS Project, MS Excel (S-curves, manpower histograms, dashboards); working knowledge of AutoCAD and Navisworks is a plus.
• Soft Skills: Strong analytical mindset, attention to detail, clear written and verbal English (Arabic an advantage), comfortable presenting to senior client stakeholders.
Preferred (Region & Industry Familiarity)
• Familiarity with major KSA Client planning and reporting standards (Aramco, SABIC, SEC, Royal Commission, or similar).
• Understanding of typical KSA permitting, site access and regulatory procedures.
• Working knowledge of structural steel fabrication / delivery lead times and erection sequencing (Zamil or equivalent).
• Exposure to welding sequencing (AWS D1.1 / ASME B31.3), hydrotest planning and mechanical completion workflows.
