Electrical Engineer – Railway Equipment

Maintenance

Role Overview

The Electrical Engineer is a key technical authority within the depot workshop, responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of the depot's electrical infrastructure ,hands-on fault diagnosis and strategic maintenance planning

You will lead a team of technicians, manage maintenance schedules, and coordinate with various departments to ensure the adhering to stringent health and safety regulations .

Key Responsibilities

1. Rolling Stock & Workshop Maintenance

• Diagnosis & Repair: Lead complex fault-finding, diagnosis, and rectification of electrical and electronic failures on

• Preventative Maintenance: Develop, implement, and monitor Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules for the fleet and workshop equipment to minimize downtime and optimize performance .

• Overhaul & Refurbishment: Oversee the overhaul and rewiring of electrical systems, including control panels, PLCs, switchgear and testing electrical subassemblies .

• Plant Utilities: Maintain critical plant utilities such as air compressors, EOT cranes, pumps, and overhead line equipment (OHE) .

• Safety Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, including Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO), working at height, and high-voltage switching procedures . Conduct regular depot safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments (HIRA) .

1. Technical Leadership & Documentation

• Team Supervision: Supervise and mentor a team of electrical technicians and contractors, ensuring work quality and adherence to safety standards.

Coordinate daily work assignments and provide on-the-job training .

• Technical Documentation: Create, review, and update technical documentation, including electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, maintenance instructions, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) .

• Continuous Improvement: Investigate component failures, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to enhance fleet reliability (Mean Time Between Failures - MTBF) . Drive continuous improvement initiatives in the workshop .

2. Project Management & Coordination

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university .

• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or equivalent certification is preferred .

Experience

• Minimum 5–8 years of experience in electrical engineering, ideally within a rail or heavy transportation industry .

• Proven experience in a depot or manufacturing workshop environment is highly desirable .

• Demonstrated experience in leading maintenance activities and technical teams .

Technical Skills

• Systems Knowledge: Strong understanding of Railway in depot infrastructure, and electrical systems .

• Standards: Proficiency with industry standards related to safety, EMI/EMC, and component sizing .

• Software: Proficiency in CAD software for reviewing technical drawings (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and ERP systems (e.g., SAP) .
