Process Engineering & Automation Engineer
Job Description:
We are seeking a results-driven Process Engineering & Automation Engineer to enhance refinery processes through advanced simulation tools and hydrocarbon accounting systems integration. This role is critical for improving energy efficiency, minimizing operational waste, and ensuring the accuracy of material and energy balances through robust data validation and reconciliation practices. As a key contributor, you will drive process improvements, implement real-time monitoring solutions, and ensure the integrity of production data, ultimately enabling more efficient and flexible refinery operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Process Optimization through Simulation Tools:
• Utilize advanced simulation software such as Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, and Honeywell UniSim to create detailed models of refinery processes. These models will be used to analyze and optimize operational parameters, leading to improved throughput, reduced energy consumption, and enhanced product quality.
• Conduct sensitivity analyses and scenario simulations to identify potential process improvements and operational efficiencies. This includes evaluating the impact of various operating conditions and configurations on overall refinery performance.
• Collaborate with process engineers and operators to validate simulation results against actual plant data, ensuring that models accurately reflect real-world conditions and can be effectively used for decision-making.
Hydrocarbon Accounting (Data Validation & Reconciliation):
• Implement and manage hydrocarbon accounting systems, such as Belsim Vali, to accurately track and validate material flows throughout the refinery. This includes establishing protocols for data collection, validation, and reporting to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
• Perform comprehensive reconciliations of operational data with financial and production reports, addressing any discrepancies and ensuring that all mass and energy balances are accurately recorded. This process is crucial for maintaining the integrity of financial reporting and operational performance metrics.
• Work closely with accounting and finance teams to ensure that production data aligns with financial reports, facilitating accurate forecasting and budgeting processes.
Data Analysis and Process Improvements:
• Analyze process data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement. Utilize statistical and computational methods to assess process performance and develop actionable recommendations.
• Lead initiatives aimed at optimizing energy consumption and improving process efficiency, focusing on minimizing downtime and maximizing throughput. This may involve implementing new technologies or refining existing processes based on data-driven insights.
• Conduct regular reviews of data validation and reconciliation processes to identify areas for enhancement, ensuring continuous improvement in material balance accuracy and operational reliability.
Technologies and Tools:
• Aspen HYSYS: For steady-state and dynamic simulation, process design, and performance modeling in the refining and chemical industries. This software allows for the creation of detailed process models that can be used to optimize operating conditions, evaluate process changes, and predict the impact of disturbances on plant performance.
• Aspen Plus: For chemical process simulation, particularly in the design and optimization of chemical processes. It offers a comprehensive set of tools for process modeling, including unit operation models, thermodynamic property packages, and optimization algorithms.
• Honeywell UniSim: For process simulation and optimization in various chemical and refining applications. UniSim provides a user-friendly interface for building process models, analyzing process behavior, and identifying opportunities for improvement.
• Belsim Vali: For mass balance, data validation, and reconciliation, ensuring accurate tracking of material flows. Belsim Vali employs advanced algorithms and techniques to reconcile process data, identify measurement errors, and provide reliable material balance calculations.
• Sphera and Energy Components: Other platforms for managing material and energy balances, validating production data, and ensuring reconciliation between operational and accounting data. These systems integrate with process simulation tools and real-time data sources to provide a comprehensive view of refinery operations.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related field.
Experience:
• 10+ years of experience in process simulation, optimization, and hydrocarbon accounting in oil and gas refineries.
• Experience with data validation, reconciliation, and material balance optimization.
• Strong expertise in process simulation tools such as Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, and Honeywell UniSim.
