 MEP Estimation Engineer

Industry: Portable Cabin / Modular Building Manufacturing

Department: Estimation & Tendering

Reports To: Estimation Manager / Operations Manager

Job Summary

The MEP Estimation Engineer is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) works related to portable cabins, modular buildings, prefabricated structures, site offices, accommodation camps, and industrial modular units. The role involves reviewing tender documents, preparing BOQs, obtaining supplier quotations, coordinating with engineering and production teams, and ensuring all MEP systems comply with project specifications, client requirements, Saudi codes, and applicable international standards.

Key Responsibilities

Tender Review & Cost Estimation

• Review tender documents, drawings, technical specifications, and client requirements.

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, Fire Fighting, Fire Alarm, ELV, and low-current systems.

• Analyze tender documents to identify project scope, exclusions, risks, and assumptions.

• Perform quantity take-offs from MEP drawings and specifications.

• Prepare detailed Bills of Quantities (BOQ) for all MEP disciplines.

• Develop complete project cost breakdowns including materials, labor, equipment, subcontractors, logistics, and overheads.

• Ensure estimates comply with project budgets and company pricing strategies.

Design & Engineering Coordination

• Coordinate with Civil, Structural, Architectural, and Production teams during estimation.

• Review MEP layouts for constructability and manufacturing feasibility.

• Suggest value engineering solutions to optimize project costs without compromising quality.

• Ensure coordination between HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and modular construction systems.

• Identify design conflicts and recommend practical engineering solutions.

Vendor & Procurement Coordination

• Obtain competitive quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.

• Evaluate supplier quotations for technical and commercial compliance.

• Maintain updated pricing databases for MEP materials and equipment.

• Coordinate with procurement regarding current market prices and lead times.

• Negotiate pricing with suppliers whenever required.

Cost Analysis

• Prepare material take-offs for:

o Electrical systems

o HVAC systems

o Plumbing systems

o Fire Fighting systems

o Fire Alarm systems

o ELV systems

• Estimate installation labor hours.

• Calculate manufacturing and installation costs.

• Analyze project profitability and cost risks.

• Prepare cost comparison reports.

Tender Submission

• Prepare complete technical and commercial estimation packages.

• Assist in preparing tender clarifications and responses.

• Participate in pre-bid meetings when required.

• Support commercial negotiations with clients.

Project Handover

• Prepare estimation handover documents for awarded projects.

• Coordinate with Project Management, Procurement, and Production teams.

• Provide material quantities and cost breakdowns to project execution teams.

• Assist during project kick-off meetings.

Documentation

• Maintain estimation records and historical cost databases.

• Update standard cost libraries.

• Archive supplier quotations and estimation files.

• Prepare estimation reports for management review.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or MEP Engineering.

• Professional certifications in MEP estimation are an advantage.

• Valid Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE) registration is preferred.

Experience

• Minimum 5 years of experience in MEP estimation.

• At least 3 years in the portable cabin, modular building, prefab, or steel structure manufacturing industry.

• Experience with Saudi Aramco, SABIC, Royal Commission, SEC, or major industrial projects is highly preferred.

• Strong knowledge of modular construction methodologies.
