We are seeking an accredited Fire & Safety Design Engineer to lead the drafting, design, and technical review of life safety and fire protection systems for our real estate and development projects. The ideal candidate must hold an active classification with the Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE) and possess expertise in drafting compliant submittals under the Saudi Building Code (SBC), specifically SBC 201 (Architectural / Safety) and SBC 801 (Fire Protection).
Key Responsibilities
SBC Compliant Design & Drafting: Prepare detailed engineering drawings, layouts, and blueprints for fire protection, alarm systems, and passive life safety features strictly following SBC 801 (Fire Code) and SBC 201 (Architectural Code).
Life Safety Plans Development: Calculate occupant loads, determine exit capacities, design travel distance routes, and lay out protected egress stairwells/lobbies to ensure regulatory approval.
Active Systems Engineering: Design automatic sprinkler networks, standpipes, clean-agent suppression systems, and smoke management systems including pump room sizing and hydraulic calculations.
Civil Defense & Authority Approvals: Lead the technical submission process to obtain necessary plan approvals from Saudi Civil Defense and municipal authorities via regulatory portals (e.g., Balady / Momrah).
Cross-Disciplinary Coordination: Coordinate with Architectural, Structural, and MEP engineering teams to ensure safety and code compliance without compromising building design or operation.
Code Variance & Value Engineering: Conduct code compliance audits on architectural sets and offer performance-based design solutions when standard code constraints conflict with architectural intent.
Requirements & Qualifications
SCE Accreditation (Mandatory): Active membership and professional classification with the Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE) as a Safety/Fire Protection Engineer (Engineer, Professional, or Consultant status).
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Safety Engineering, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
Experience: 5+ years of direct experience in drafting and designing fire and life safety systems in Saudi Arabia.
Technical Mastery:
In-depth knowledge of the Saudi Building Code (SBC) framework (SBC 201, SBC 801, SBC 401).
Working knowledge of international reference codes (NFPA 10, 13, 14, 20, 72, 101, and IBC).
Software Proficiency:
Advanced command of AutoCAD and Revit (BIM) for producing life safety and fire protection layouts.
Experience with hydraulic calculation software (e.g., HAP, Elite, HydroCAD) for sprinkler and standpipe networks.
Key Competencies
Precision Drafting: Ability to translate complex code rules into clear, error-free engineering plans ready for site execution and authority verification.
Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of Civil Defense procedures, code compliance reviews, and submittal workflows in KSA.
Problem-Solving: Capability to address complex spatial constraints with code-compliant life safety solutions.
